Things To Do Right Before Closing When Selling A House

It can take time to sell a house, and it can also take time to get yourself packed and moved once you do sell it. If you recently sold your house and are getting ready to close on it, you will need to get packed and moved out of the house, and there will be several other things you will need to do just before closing. Here six important things you will need to do right before you close on the deal.

Clean the house

As soon as you get packed and moved, you should deep-clean your entire home. Leaving the home clean for the buyers is a nice gesture, and it will make it easier for them to get moved in. If you do not have time to do this, hire a cleaning company to perform a move-out cleaning.

Take a last look around for things

As you are cleaning the house for the last time, you should take a look in every closet, drawer, and corner to make sure you are not leaving anything behind. This step can prevent you from leaving important things in your home, and it will also ensure that you are not leaving junk behind for the new owners of the house.

Shut all curtains and blinds

Another good step to take is to shut all the window treatments in the house. You will not know how soon the new owners plan on moving in, and keeping the window treatments closed is simply a good way to keep burglars away. If the curtains are wide open, people might be able to see inside the house and notice that it is vacant, and vacant homes can attract homeless people and burglars.

Leave all keys, garage remotes, and appliance manuals

It's also important to leave certain things on the kitchen counter when you sell a house. Appliance or furnace manuals are good examples of things you should leave. Right before you leave the house for the last time, you should also set the house keys and garage remotes on the counter. You may want to keep one key to give to the new owners at the closing, but you may not need to if the real estate agent has a key for your house.

Write a note to the owners

One other good thing you may want to do before closing is leave a note for the new owners. The note could state that you hope they love the house as much as your family has, and it could state other nice wishes or hopes. This is not something you have to do, but it can be a pleasant surprise for the people who buy your house.
